It took me a pretty long time (and rather frustrating) to get Codex Cloud set up; to the point that I was tempted to use a VPS instead. What finally worked was using a Codex CLI that had browser access and asking it to look for OpenAI Dev Day 2026 and the OpenAI docs to set up the new Codex Cloud. The Codex CLI then opened up my chatgpt.com settings and configured the Codex Cloud including connecting to GitHub. There were a few permissions issues that we needed to work through after the configuration which we found through doing a few trials.

Overall, I found it strange that my dot could not do this and that the interface for creating environments was so painful; I remember the old “Scheduled” interface where it gave you a prompt which then walked through the configuration in a chat thread. This is essentially what the Codex CLI did for me.

Once I got it going in the Codex CLI it was very easy and I can now spin up multiple cloud instances from my dot which I am currently using to update Pull Requests and sort merge conflicts without relying on my local machine. My goal is to move all development work to the cloud.
