I’ve been using the Codex voice mode to run tasks on my Mac Mini. Some tips I’ve found:

  • Use one thread and start it by telling Codex to make sure to use other threads on Sol-5.6 xhigh that spin up worktrees.
  • Have Codex check in on the threads if you haven’t heard from them in a while (they are pretty good about notifying though so this is rare to have to do).
  • Throw as much as you can at the model in a long stream of consciousness. It is very good at breaking down your thoughts into achievable tasks.

Something I wish there was is background noise or music. I sometimes forget that Codex is working and can be quite startled when it starts talking again.

Overall, this is a super impressive feature. I have been able to move through code reviews 5 times faster. I have Codex send me logs, images, and screen recordings through Slack. The voice model is very pleasant to work with and easy to talk to with a reasonably natural conversational feel.
